Steamed Buns

  • 500 grams or 1 lb all-purpose flour

  • 7 grams or 1/4 oz. dry instant yeast

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 150 ml / ½ cup lukewarm water

  • 125 ml / ½ cup milk

  • 7 grams or 1/4 oz. salt

  • 1 tbsp peanut oil

How to

  1. In a stand mixer, combine the flour, yeast and sugar.
  2. Gradually add the lukewarm water while mixing.
  3. Slowly pour in the milk.
  4. Allow it to mix for a moment.
  5. Finally, add the salt.
  6. Let it mix for about 10 minutes.
  7. Cover the bowl with foil and let it rise for at least 90 minutes in a warm place.
  8. After rising, remove the dough from the bowl and place it on a sheet of baking paper.
  9. Roll it out gently with a rolling pin until it's about half an inch thick.
  10. Use a round cutter to cut out the buns.
  11. Brush them with peanut oil and fold them in half.
  12. Cut squares of baking paper so that each bun has its own piece.
  13. Fill a steamer pot with water and bring it to a boil.
  14. Place the buns with the baking paper in the steamer basket and steam for 10 minutes.
  15. Serve them with something delicious, like Char Siu, and enjoy!
