Onion tomato steak sauce

Of course, it is perfectly fine to eat a steak just on its own, but it tastes so much better with a good sauce. Like we say in the Netherlands, “You can’t walk on one leg”.
This steak sauce is quick and easy to make and goes perfectly as a side dish next to any grilled steak.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg cherry tomatoes
  • 2 piece red onion
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 150 ml red wine
  • 250 ml beef stock
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper

Instructions

  • Grill the tomatoes on the grates and take them off before they start to pop. Slice the onions in half and grill them until you see some grill marks.
  • Put a pan on the fire and let the butter melt. Put the tomatoes and onions in and stir-fry them until they turn soft.
  • Deglaze with the red wine and give it a good stir to get everything loose on the bottom of the pan. Then add the stock and let it simmer down until it’s reduced by half.
  • Let it cool down a bit before putting it in a blender and grind it to a thick sauce. Season it with salt and pepper, and you’re done.
