Gyros should be cheap, delicious and quick to make. Of Course you want the best quality and of course it should be better than the takeaway fast food gyros that we are used to in the western world but why not keep it quick and cheap at the same time?
Porkbelly cooked in an authentic way to get the best Greek pork belly gyros you ever had in your own backyard or kitchen.

  • 500 grams porkbelly
  • 4 red peppers diced
  • 2 tbsp fresh oregano chopped fine
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme chopped fine
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest
  • 100 ml olive oil
  • 2 tbsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp black pepper


  • Chop your porkbelly into thin and small strips. ( remember that you can easily store porkbelly so you dont have to look for exactly 500 grams of porkbelly).
  • Mix all the ingredients from the marinade in a bowl. Make sure that your lemon zest is from a fresh lemon. I used 2 lemons.
  • Marinade the porkbelly. Because of how thin the strips are you don't need marinating time.
  • Fire up your BBq or stove and let a wok come up to an extreme high temperature.Pour in some olive oil and dump the meat in the pan.
  • While the fat is melting in this extreme heat the meat is going to fry itself.
  • Stir it and let it become golden brown in around 2/3 minutes.
  • Serve with some hot pita bread, some garlic sauce or tzaziki and offcourse some tomato and onions.
